Scored for string quartet, double bass, piano and spoken word

“Peace” was commissioned by CityMusic Cleveland specifically for performances by the Pantheon Ensemble in 2022 as part of their “Justice, Equality, Hope Chamber Music Series.” The work in four short movements focuses on various aspects of peace based on spiritual principles. Sonically, these spiritual understandings are communicated through spoken word, melody, harmony, rhythm, audience participation and extended performance techniques. “Breathtaking new work by Mohawk-American composer, Dawn Avery This striking work combines atmospheric instrumental techniques with lyrical melodies, active staging, and the word "peace" spoken in twenty languages, drawn from the heritages of the composer and the performers…Mohawk values underpin the concept of Peace, an expansive chamber work that explores different spiritual aspects of peace, from the divine intelligence that knows peace to the intentional act of practicing peace.” (2022, CityMusic Cleveland)
